Super Bowl Live

Is it the Super Bowl or the Taylor Swift Bowl?

Super Bowl 58 has brought an abundance of A-list celebrities but throughout the game, we saw multiple shots of Taylor Swift. It is no shocker that Taylor Swift will be covered at these NFL games. It has been happening all season. However, does it make it right?

I think at some point there should be a separation between a player’s personal life and their career. There should be a line and I believe the NFL has crossed that line and taken advantage of Taylor’s influence for their benefit.

It has been proven that Swift has positively impacted the NFL’s viewership and engagement since her relationship with Travis Kelce, Tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift has effectively generated an additional $331.5m in brand value for the Chiefs and NFL.

However, this weekend should not be about Taylor Swift, it should be about the players who made it to the Super Bowl. It is not easy for just anyone to make it to the Super Bowl and a lot of these players including Kelce have made history. These players deserve to be highlighted and celebrated but yet they are being oveshined by Swift and her following called the Swifties.

The Kansas City Chiefs are now back-to-back Super Bowl Champions and Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have accomplished some phenomenal things together, becoming the ultimate duo. Mahomes and Kelce have now won three Super Bowls together, four AFC championships, have the most postseason touchdowns ever, and are the highest-paid quarterback and Tightend duo ever.

Now these players have accomplished a lot and my point is that this weekend should mainly be about them. Swift has had a positive impact and it has been a great thing that she has brought a bigger audience to the game. However, there is a time and place to show her, and the Super Bowl really should not be about her.

Kelce has had quite the season and he should be highlighted for his accomplishments and what he has done to get to the Super Bowl. He is now in the conversation for being the best Tight end after now holding multiple records this season. Kelce has broken Jerry Rice’s record for the most catches in the playoffs and he is not done yet.

His relationship with Swift has put him and his team in the spotlight. Overall their relationship shows that they are both accomplishing loads of success. Kelce even expressed how proud he is of her for her success in winning her Grammy leading up to Super Bowl 58.

“She’s unbelievable,” Kelce said. “She’s rewriting the history books. I told her I need to hold up my end of the bargain and bring home some hardware, too.”

These two are the perfect example of a power couple. Kelce kept up his part of the bargain by winning Super Bowl 58 in overtime with the final score of 25-22.

I understand the excitement of a new relationship and it is amazing what Taylor Swift has done for the NFL. With that said it is also amazing what these players have done and they deserve the spotlight for once as well.
