Anthony Remedios is in his final stretch at Arizona State University. When he graduates after this semester he will be walking away with two degrees to his name. Anthony is a go-getter who earned his bachelor’s degree in sports journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and is on his way to finishing his masters in mass communication.
He is soon heading into the job market with an array of knowledge in journalism. Anthony’s career goals are rooted in sports which he found his love for as a kid growing up in San Mateo, California. Naturally, Anthony is a bay area sports fan following the Giants, Warriors and especially the San Jose Sharks considering his dad and uncle were original season ticket holders for the first 27 years of the franchise. Life as a bay area sports fan has treated Anthony kindly considering he’s seen four NBA championships, three World Series and a Stanley Cup appearance.
Beyond sports, Anthony is a huge music guy who attends about eight to 10 concerts a year and has been to several notable venues such as the Hollywood Bowl and his personal favorite Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California. Anthony specifically seeks classic rock and country concerts and says The Beach Boys are his favorite band of all time. For Anthony no concert will ever top The Beach Boys 50th reunion tour he went to for his 10th birthday, where he got to meet the original band members and sit front row.
Through his elementary and middle school years when he wasn’t watching his teams play he was either playing basketball or baseball with his friends. Anthony learned his love for baseball from his dad Paul who has been officiating sports for over 40 years and is currently umpiring junior college baseball. Following in his dads footsteps Anthony has been a baseball umpire for the past 12 years.
It was entering his years at Aragon High School when he hung up his cleats and began his involvement in sports in a multitude of ways. He got his start in PA announcing at his local little league doing all star tournaments in the summer before his freshman year. He continued PA announcing in high school doing JV football games and soon after he was the lead PA announcer for baseball, basketball, water polo, lacrosse and volleyball. Anthony’s involvement in high school sports didn’t end at announcing as throughout his four years he got experience score keeping, managing the football and basketball teams and most impressively, he became his schools first Sports Information Director.
To continue the development of his sports announcing skills Anthony attended a week long play by play sports broadcasting camp held at UCLA his sophomore and junior summers. It was at these camps that he was able to pick the brains of notable sports journalists such as Dave McMenamin, Scott Hanson and Colleen Wolfe.
Over the past few years of attending Cronkite Anthony has been able to put his knowledge and skills to work. He is looking forward to displaying his expertise in the sports journalism industry and one day land his dream job of a professional PA announcer.
