Classmate Interview

Tobias Linkin is a Miami born Austinite who moved to Austin before the great migration in the 2020s…when everyone discovered Texas was pretty cool. He described Miami in one word, “materialistic” even though he was only there until he was 9 years old. From Miami, his parents moved his family to Texas for a more laid back lifestyle. Tobias’s mom is a homebody, and where he gets most of his personality. Even as a college student, most times he enjoys the comfort of home over the bustling college bar scene (which he still partakes in, don’t worry).

Tobias knew from pretty early on that Arizona State was the school for him and Cronkite was exactly where he wanted to be. Even went the route of the Cronkite summer camp in high school. He was pretty shocked (as most people are) to have to live in downtown Phoenix instead of where everyone else is on the Tempe campus. This, in turn, led him to rush a frat in order to actually have a social life freshman year. He never really took himself as a “frat guy” but after some lame nights downtown where a fake ID won’t work at any bar, it was time to succumb to Greek life. He met with an AEPI member that was also from Austin and went to lunch with him. From there and meeting some of the other guys it was a no brainer that AEPI was the right place. Although ASU is known for its insane frat parties, AEPI is pretty tame and has some down to earth members with sweet personalities. Which is where you want your son to end up after he tells you he is rushing a frat at ASU (some mothers worst nightmare).

After the Cronkite school his “absolute dream” career is to be a reporter for boxing. However, after a call with Mike Coppinger his dreams died a little bit upon learning it is incredibly hard to get a gig in that sport. His “more realistic” goal is to be doing sports marketing for a team, which he is already halfway there as he runs the Arizona State University Instagram account as well as President Michael Crow’s. Although he loves this, I think he shouldn’t get too down on his boxing reporter dreams. He is currently doing the Cronkite News bureau in digital audiences engagement which is more social media work so that resume should be buffed up. As long as he does not work a desk job he’ll be happy. He went to work with his dad for a little while and realized very quickly that a cubicle is the very last place he wants to be in his career.

Oh by the way, Tobias Linkin did not show up on the first day of class because he had the flu. He is a punctual person who values others’ time and is very good at communicating quickly, especially via email which tends to be hard for most people.
